LOCATION & DEMOGRAPHICS

Nicaragua is the largest country of Central America located in the middle the Western of Hemisphere. The capital, Managua is only two and one half (2.5) hours by air from Miami and Houston, which facilitates access to the world’s largest market in the United States. Nicaragua has an area of 130,000 sq km. has a population of 5,675,356 Mestizos and Whites make up the majority (86%) of the population of Nicaragua. 90% of Nicaraguans live in the Pacific lowlands and the adjacent interior highlands. The population is 54% urban with Managua (capital) being the largest city, home to over a million inhabitants. In addition, many Nicaraguans live abroad.
Language
The official language of Nicaragua is Spanish, or Nicañol as Nicaraguan Spanish is sometimes referred to, and is spoken by 90% of the country's population. Nicaraguans on the Caribbean coast speak their indigenous languages and also English.
Government
The Pacific coast of Nicaragua was settled as a Spanish colony from Panama in the early 16th century. Independence from Spain was declared in 1821 and the country became an independent republic in 1838.
Currency The Currency code is Gold Cordoba (NIO) and the exchange rate is 19.1337 gold cordobas per US dollar.
Religion
Religion is a significant part of the culture of Nicaragua and forms part of the constitution. Although Nicaragua has no official religion it is nominally Roman Catholic. Practicing Roman Catholics are no longer the majority and are declining while evangelical Protestant groups and Mormons are growing rapidly have been growing since the 1990s. The inhabitants of the North Caribbean Region of Nicaragua profess the religion Morava and Anglican and there are also many Catholics.
Geography
The country's physical geography divides it into three major zones: Pacific lowlands, the wetter, cooler central highlands, and the Caribbean lowlands.
Climate

The climate is tropical in lowlands, cooler in highlands. Here, daytime temperatures average 30° C to 33° C, and night temperatures drop to 21° C to 24° C most of the year.Rainfall is seasonal--May through October is the rainy season, and December through April is the driest period.
